D-Now 2009: Recap

If you're unfamiliar with Discipleship Now, better known as "D-Now," allow me to give you an overview. Take 100-something middle and high school students, divide them up by grade and gender and place each group inside a "host home" for a weekend where they will sleep, eat, wrestle, break stuff, and get to know each other better. Add the main ingredient - Christ - and you have a recipe for awesomeness. Also, Churches from around the area team up and have several joint gatherings with a band and a speaker.

The speaker this year was a man by the name of Ed Newton.
If you have never heard this guy speak i suggest you visit his website at www.ednewton.org and download some of his podcasts (also available on iTunes.) He is absolutely amazing. His heart for Christ is undeniable.

The band was Rush of Fools. I would also recommend you visit their website at myspace.com/rushoffools. Their ministry through music is absolutely awesome. David Nasser wrote in his book Glory Revealed that he is sick of seeing "worship" bands sing songs that could be sung to Christ as easily as they could be sung to you girlfriend. NOT the case with this band. They ensure that everyone in the room knows EXACTLY who they are playing their songs for. It's not for me, it's not for you, it's not for one of their girlfriends, it's for Christ and his glory.

Most of the churches in the area completed separate service projects organized by their respective youth ministries. When asked what our particular service project was, i looked at the guy asking and said with a smile, "we demolished our church." Ok, so maybe it sounds a lot more sacrilegious than it really was. We actually just tore some unmatching bricks from the bottom half of one of our buildings. It was pretty hard work, but we made it fun.

I believe the decision count from our our youth group was: 3 salvations, 9 rededications, and 1 surrender into full time ministry.

I will elaborate on what i learned at a later time. So many realizations!

John 7:38 "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'... "

Wow!! That's a phenomenal weekend! A decision to follow Christ is a tough thing for a teenager to make, and it's even tougher to make it a life-long heart and lifestyle commitment.

Welcome to the blogosphere! I'll be putting up a link at my site if that's okay.

Looking forward to some "heresy" posts. :)
